Step 1: Book an Appointment
- Make an online inquiry or call us to find out more about our services and to request an appointment.
- Before the first session, you may be asked to complete intake forms and share helpful information, such as referral letters, school reports, or previous assessments.
- If you are unsure which appointment type is best, our team is happy to guide you when booking.
Step 2: Initial Assessment
- The first appointment is an initial assessment. This helps the psychologist understand the needs of the young person and recommend appropriate support.
- Comprehensive Child and Adolescent Assessment (Recommended; 90-min)
- Young people are best understood within the context of home, school, and relationships. This assessment allows the psychologist to explore concerns in detail and consider emotional, behavioural, and developmental factors.
- The psychologist will also consult with a key support person such as a teacher, previous psychologist/counsellor, or allied health professional. This helps avoid fragmented care and ensures recommendations are applicable across settings.
- Many families find this approach provides the clearest understanding of their child’s needs.
- Standard Child Assessment (60-min)
- A focused session to understand main concerns, gather background information, and begin planning next steps. This provides a starting point for support.
Step 3: Ongoing Consultations (50-min)
- After the initial assessment, the psychologist will discuss recommended next steps. This may include therapy sessions, strategies for home or school, or coordination with other professionals if helpful.
- The psychologist can also provide guidance on how often sessions may be helpful and the likely duration of treatment.
