- Our practice is registered with Medicare. This means that if you are eligible, you may be able to claim a Medicare rebate for sessions with our psychologists.
Better Access to Mental Health Care Initiative
- Under the Australian Government’s Better Access initiative, people who have been assessed with a clinically diagnosed mental disorder and have a Mental Health Treatment Plan (prepared by a GP, psychiatrist, or paediatrician) can access Medicare-rebated psychology services.
- For more information, you can visit the Services Australia page: Mental Health Care and Medicare – https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/mental-health-care-and-medicare
How many sessions can I claim?
- With a valid referral, you may be eligible for:
- Up to 10 individual psychological therapy services per calendar year, and
- Up to 10 group therapy services per calendar year
- A calendar year runs from 1 January to 31 December.
- This is outlined by the Department of Health here: Better Access Initiative – https://www.health.gov.au/our-work/better-access-initiative
Who can provide these services?
- At our practice, all sessions are provided by eligible registered psychologists, consistent with the Better Access program requirements.
How the referral process works
Important to know
- The 10 individual and 10 group Medicare-rebated services are a total limit per person, per calendar year — not per psychologist.
- Once your annual Medicare-rebated allocation is used, further sessions will be charged privately until the allocation resets on 1 January.
